John De Souza, 2018 President
John De Souza is President of Cressy & Everett Real Estate in South Bend. The independent, residential firm has been serving northern Indiana and southwest Michigan since 1946.
John joined the Cressy & Everett team in 2007 after a successful career in technology and management consulting. Under his forward-thinking leadership, the firm has evolved into one of the most technically advanced brokerages in the region. REAL Trends Inc. even ranks the company as one of the Top 300 Brokers in the nation based on number of clients served (#236).
As a former professor at the University of Notre Dame, John taught courses on applied technology and human communication. He uses his teaching experience and knowledge of new technology to coach other REALTORS®, including at conferences.
John is Director of the Indiana Regional MLS (IRMLS) and Chairman of IAR’s Association of the Future Work Group. He also contributes as an advisor to several technology firms.
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, John earned a BA in Management from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. He also has an MBA in Technology Management.
John gives back to his community by volunteering at church and mentoring Notre Dame students. He also enjoys amateur photography and long-distance cycling.

Brian Thompson, 2018 President-elect
Brian Thompson became a REALTOR® in 2005 and is a managing broker with F.C. Tucker REALTORS® in Bloomington.
Brian believes knowledge is power and is always striving to further his education on today’s real estate issues. He teaches orientation classes to all the new REALTORS® who join the Bloomington Board of REALTORS® (BBOR); and his dedication to education is reflected by the professional designations he has earned: Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES).
IAR and BBOR have benefitted from Brian’s leadership in many ways for many years. He was Local REALTOR® of the Year for BBOR in 2011, board president in 2012 and has a standout record of committee participation. Brian helped to set up the REALTOR® Foundation for BBOR, which is an organization that seeks to raise money which is used in the community for housing related issues. He has also been recognized by his peers as an industry champion through his many awards. He is a past recipient of the Melody Martin Humanitarian Award and Marilyn Snoddy Above & Beyond Award.
Brian’s service at the state level includes the IAR Executive Committee, the IAR Board of Directors, state RPAC Trustees chairman, and chairing several committees over the years. He is one of the association’s top political advocates, known for his commitment to RPAC fundraising and serving as state representative on the National Association of REALTORS®’ Major Investor and Participation Councils.
Outside of the office, Brian serves as president of his local Boys & Girls Club and is on the organization’s Board of Directors. He believes in building strong industry relationships and has worked with the Monroe County Builders Association (MCBA) on many events, including the MCBA Parade of Homes.

Bernice Helman, 2018 Treasurer
Bernice Helman is Vice President and co-owner of Coldwell Banker Troy Helman REALTORS® in Terre Haute.
Bernice joined the firm in 2007 after a 24-year career in the real estate finance industry. Her last position was Vice President and Mortgage Lending Manager at First Financial Bank. She also served as a director of the Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association from 2003-2008, holding the office of Secretary-Treasurer for the last two years, and was a member of the Freddie Mac Community Lender Advisory Board.
The Terre Haute Area Association of REALTORS® is Bernice’s primary local REALTOR® association; she’s been involved with them since the day she joined and in virtually all capacities. At the state level, Bernice is an officer, member of the executive and finance committees, and an RPAC trustee. She is a National Association of REALTORS® director and serves on the NAR public policy coordinating committee.
Bernice is deeply invested in her community and has been recognized for her service with these awards:

Bernice is also a member of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Community Advisory Board and the Home Builders Association of Greater Terre Haute.
Bernice is married to Troy and has two children, Ryan and Abbe, with whom she loves to spend time.

Cheryl Stuckwish, Immediate Past President
Cheryl Stuckwish is President of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Indiana Realty, a firm she founded in 1986 along with her husband, Lonn. They serve Jackson and Bartholomew Counties with offices located in both Seymour and Columbus.
Cheryl is a committed leader at all levels of the REALTOR® organization. She has twice served as President of both the Jackson County and Crossroads Associations of REALTORS®. She has also served as Chair of both the Jackson County MLS and the SCILEX MLS. She currently is a member of the IAR Executive Committee and will be serving as IAR’s 2017 President. She is also currently serving on the NAR Membership Policy and Board Jurisdiction Committee.
She has been recognized by her fellow REALTORS® as REALTOR® of the Year for the Jackson County Association in 1990 and the Crossroads Association in 2001. She was honored by the Jackson County Association of REALTORS® with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
Many community organizations have benefited from Cheryl’s support. She has served on boards including the American Red Cross, March of Dimes, Jackson County Community Foundation, both Jackson and Bartholomew County Industrial Development Corporations and Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce.
Cheryl and Lonn have been married for over 40 years and they have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.
